Lord Stone of Blackheath
Lord Stone of Blackheath became a life peer in the House of Lords in November 1997. He worked for Marks & Spencer plc from 1966 to 1999, joining as a trainee and eventually becoming joint Managing Director. He is currently a director of several non-governmental originations a retail company, and contributes to the work of several charities.
Lord Stone takes particular interest in mindfulness. He is part of the All Party Parliamentary Group to study the benefits of bringing mindfulness into public policy and in the criminal justice system. The group is conducting an enquiry into the roles that mindfulness could play in health, education and the workplace.
Lord Stone has valued the direct and creative effect mindfulness has had in his life. In particular, he found the practice of mindfulness invaluable when he was dispatched to Cairo for meetings with Egypt's military leadership.
In January 2015, Lord Stone became the patron of Breathing Space as he is particularly interested in supporting its effort to widen the scope of mindfulness as a tool for positive and creative change in the world.
